Be a Volunteer at the NEW San Diego Public Library

The speaker at this Saturday's monthly meeting of the San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) is Rick Crawford.  Rick is the Supervisor of Special Collections at the San Diego Public Library, and as such supervisor of the Genealogical Collection. He is the former Archives Director at the San Diego Historical Society, where he also edited the Journal of San Diego History.

San Diego Public Library

As those of you in San Diego know, the new library is scheduled to open the end of September.  In the past the library's Genealogy collection has been somewhat limited due to space.  However, moving into the new facility will allow them to expand their collection significantly.  SDGS has been working with the San Diego Public Library for a couple of years in formulating an agreement for them to integrate the SDGS's extensive library into their collection.

Rick will be discussing the features of the new library and opportunities for SDGS members to volunteer their services to assist library patrons with research, managing the collection and providing genealogy classes.

I am very sorry I will be at Jamboree and will miss the presentation.  I think the society has a great opportunity to assist the library staff in making their Genealogy and Special Collections a highlight of the library and one of the best genealogical collections and facilities in the region.
